2024 – A Year In Review
Do you ever look back on your year and think “wow, it was so crazy”, but really only like one thing happened?
That’s basically how I feel. My year was NUTS, but really I accomplished one major thing…I moved from Toronto to the Cayman Islands.
This was one of the toughest years of my life. I learned so much about myself, my marriage and my friendships. I learned I can pretty much handle just about anything.
If I truly think about what I did this year, breaking down the move into all the different pieces, I am truly shocked!
Leaving it all behind
I packed, sorted and organized my entire life to move from Toronto to Grand Cayman! I filled out endless forms, made 16 trips to the thrift store to make donations, said goodbye to all my family and friends, left the job I love. My husband and I lived in 2 different places for 2 months.
We sold our house, our car and so much of our stuff!! We learned we were basically organized horders and that we could definitely live without a lot of stuff.
I took 10 flights (5 trips) in a year! I’ve had to learn how to pack light, so that I can go shopping while in Orlando or Toronto. There is seriously no shopping on the island!
Once we got to the island, I dealt with feelings of loss, depression, feeling unwanted, uncared about and forgotten. I realized just how hard it is to make friends as an adult. That all traditions are gone and that we have to make all new ones.
New year, new adventures
There is definitely an excitement that comes with a move like this. I am looking forward to what 2025 may bring, while hoping it is a little calmer!
This past year has taught me that I am strong, resilient and that as long as my husband and I stand by each other, we can get through anything.
