First Cayman Christmas!!
It’s our first Christmas in the Cayman Islands!!
We were excited and nervous about our first Christmas in the Cayman Islands! This was going to be very different from what we were used to!
No snow, ice or freezing cold weather to deal with, but lots of sunshine, some rain and a nice tropical breeze!
One thing the this island does well is Christmas lights!! Almost every single business, hotel and so many trees, have been decked out in lights!! Our neighbours inspired us to put up more lights outside. Kind of nice putting up lights in nice weather and not freezing!
While I’m used to having a quiet, low key Christmas (in fact, I prefer it), knowing I was so far away from friends and family, made me a little sad. But, also knowing that this was the start of brand new traditions, was very exciting.
New traditions, like taking Christmas photos on the beach!! The weather is generally pretty great here, even during hurricane season! We knew we need to celebrate the “beach” part of our lives!
One thing that I really noticed here, is it is generally “business as usual” right up until Christmas. Most stores don’t have “holiday” hours, with the exception of being closed on Christmas. Christmas music is played, but randomly. Not a constant stream of Christmas music for 2 months. Even the local radio station doesn’t do Christmas music all day, every day!
A big thing on the island is going to brunch on Christmas day. Lots of restaurants are open, especially at all the hotels. while we didn’t do it this year, it is definitely something I would enjoy doing if we have company for Christmas.
Decorating at Home
It felt really nice to decorate our house with Christmas decorations. We added some lights to our banister and outside.
While we don’t have a lot of decorations, it really did make it feel like home.
Decorations Everywhere!!
All through the month of December, it didn’t matter where we looked, we saw Christmas decoration everywhere we went! It definitely helped get us into the Christmas spirit!!
The whole island gets into the Christmas spirit!
Right near our house is Bodden house, which has one of the largest Christmas light displays on the island! Once the set up is done, you can stroll through the grounds and take in all the Christmas lights and decorations!
Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
I really do hope to share the island Christmas with friends and family, but I am glad that we got to celebrate and enjoy our first holiday together.
