I Miss Winter

It may seem crazy to admit, but I miss winter. Apparently you can take the girl out of winter, but you can’t take winter out of the girl!

I don’t mean freezing my butt off waiting for the train. I don’t mean sitting in my car, with my teeth chattering, waiting for my car to warm up. I definitely don’t miss get all bundled up in 5 pounds of clothes just to walk the dog.

I miss the look of freshly fallen snow. I miss the quiet that comes when the world seems to be wearing a thick white blanket. I miss the site of of fully white snowflakes reflected in the street lights.

Winter has it’s own feeling

Do you know what I mean when I say “the feeling of winter”?

I miss waking up and seeing so much snow on the ground and knowing I don’t have to (or can’t) go anywhere. That feeling of when you can stay cozy inside, put on your comfy clothes and watch movies all day.

I miss the change of the seasons. I miss when the air starts to get crisp and the leaves start to fall. I miss being excited to see that first storm fall. I miss getting bundled up to play in the snow.

In southern Ontario, the yearly temperature swing is approximately 60 degrees. From a high of 30 in the summer to a low of -30 in the winter. Here in Grand Cayman, the yearly temperature swing is about 20 degrees. Meaning, it’s hot all the time. I haven’t been here a year yet so I’m not “climatized” to the weather but I have noticed that there really isn’t a change of season.

What I don’t miss…

I don’t miss freezing. I don’t miss shovelling. I don’t miss plans being cancelled last minute because of ice or snow or the cold.

I huge thank you to all my friends and family that sent me winter pictures!! Photos are from Alberta and Ontario.

While I know how lucky I am to live in a warm climate, I do miss winter…sort of…a tiny bit!
