Let’s Get Crafty

One of the hardest parts of moving to the Cayman Islands is that I had to give up my craft business. Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I was a major success. I thought of giving up constantly. I refused to join Etsy as I heard other than the push they give, there were just tons of issues, fees and almost no support. That didn’t sound like something I wanted to deal with.

I had my own website, facebook page and instagram page. I wasn’t the most consistent with posting, but I did try to post at least once per day. It’s hard to learn how to “sell yourself” to boost your own business. I don’t love having my face on posts, and I’m really not good at videos, but I’m trying!

Sadly in the Cayman Islands, all businesses need a valid business license. Fine, makes sense. However, they only issue a license to businesses that are Caymanian owed. Meaning, as an ex-pat, I could not get a business license unless I found a Caymanian partner who would “own” at least 60% of the business. UGH! Now what?? I can try to find a business that will sell my items for me, like on consignment or wholesale or find a partner. In the meantime, I will be gifting away SO much of my product as it all made the move with me!

In the meantime, I will continue making things, because even though I have LOTS of stuff, crafting is my hobby. It helps relieve stress and anxiety and it’s always nice to see pretty, handmade things.

I should stress that none of this is for sale in Grand Cayman, however to my Canadian friends and family, if there is something you like, let me know!

Drink Cozies are by far my most favourite thing to make!! I have “regular” and “large size” (pictured) cozies and they are PERFECT for hot or cold drinks! Each piece of these are had made. I also have cozies with “felt embellishments” in so many styles (there is a LOT of Disney!).

Pens and keychains are my second most favourite thing to make! Made from food-grade silicone beads (the kind used for baby teething items), these are fun and durable. I have SO many fun silicone beads! These make excellent gifts (I’m looking at you co-worker gifts and stocking stuffers!).

I have SO much more to show you!
